When this night Luke Bauer and his troop sitting in a plane to their next race, where won`t be respected the standard rules of alcohol in cycling sport, instead their will flow a lot of champagne.
The reason is the sensational performance of Bert Koch in the Odyssey of Oryx. Although the young rider wasn`t able to win one stage, he was one of the formative driver in this tour. On the second stage he showed his class (3rd place) and one stage later he managed to became the leader of GC with a 2nd place. Unfortunately the TT was a disaster and so Koch loose many worthy seconds, but Koch showed morale and with fury and strength he reached another second place.
So he was before the last stage the third in GC and leader in the YC and SC. On the climbing to the Grossherzog Friedrichsberg it was the fist time that everyone could see that Koch is only 23 years and has less experience, but with the help and routine by Brigham Wykel, Koch didn`t loose too much time and so he jumped on the second place in the GC and defend the YC
Some voices:
Koch: "Wow, what a performance by the whole team, I am so happy that I don`t disappoint them. That begins by Atila, who had an injury some days before this tour starts and fight for me untill we reached Windhoek. Their was Eggy (he means Uxley), who told me some bad jokes for my motivation and Wykel, who rode about every mountain directly before me and helped me a lot, their was all the other team mates and I shouldn`t forget Charkov an his important massages. Thanks to all of them. The whole season was planned around this race and me, that was a big pressure for me, but finally I could manage it and was the rightful second. Slovak was clear better, so this second place is not a shame, but hopefully I can attack next year again."
Uxley: "Bert is an idiot, four second places and only the win in the YC, I think I have to talk with him." (He laughs, runs to Koch and pours beer about his face."
Senn: "Today is great day and I am proud to be part of this fantastic team. I am a bit old, but I think the team will have an great development, it is a young team and can reach a lot, today it has won its first jersey and for moment they need an experienced guy, who knows the whole organization, me, but the important jobs make others and that is good, because they are here for the future, but I will always stay the first captain of the team and that is a big present."
De Mol: "We have it! We have it! We Have it! Our first jersey and if I am honest it looks much better than the green or the blue."
Luke Bauer: "Today the boys can celebrate, but for me work goes on, there is still so much to win and we are still a very young and small team, so their is a lot to do. Today shines the sun, but rain will come again. So I must plan everything carefully. This season my plan works and the riders reached topform to the right time. But next season are again very interesting races, our home tour, the Andorra Classic or again the Odyssey of Oryx."
This voices show, today is really a celebrating day for the Olpe 04ers, the chances aren`t bad that some other will follow, maybe even tomorrow in Venezuela. But stop I forget the alcohol, but if we are honest they earned them.
